A dog was struck and killed by a car during a fight over a woman. At 7:45 AM on Sunday, July 7, a 23-year-old man tried to run over a 32-year-old man with his car at the northeast corner of Lexington Avenue and 90th Street. On Lexington Avenue and 88th Street, the driver tried to hit the pedestrian again. The pedestrian jumped out of the way, but the driver hit the pedestrian's dog, which was pronounced dead on arrival at the ASPCA on East 92nd Street and First Avenue. The driver and the pedestrian knew each other and in fact were dating the same woman, a circumstance that sparked the fight. The dog met its fate when the driver drove up onto the sidewalk and pinned the poor creature between a building and some building scaffolding. The driver fled the scene but was arrested on July 8 and charged with assault. He had been driving a black 2010 Dodge Charger with New York plates.
