A new [Gallup Poll] finds that Americans appreciate John Edwards [candor about his wife Elizabeth's illness](http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article1572581.ece&e=52137&sa=X&oi=news&ct=result&cd=1&usg=__e-ugIB1BLxyKqMuXtdDLdASBiyU=) and are supportive of his decision to continue to run for president.

The poll found that 58% of voters and 68% of Democrats think Edwards should stay in, compared to 29% whop think he should drop out. Overall, the poll did not find much movement otherwise for Edwards, either positive or negative, following the announcement of his wife's cancer relapse.

"The strongest conclusion from the data, therefore, is that Edwards' announcement certainly did not hurt his standing among Democrats -- but there is no evidence that it had a significant positive effect, either," said the poll.
