Empty Police Cars Are Scary

Wow, the city’s finest really are low on manpower. Apparently, the[ NYPD is using unmanned cop cars] to scare speeders on major highways. Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President [Patrick Lynch](http://www.1010wins.com/pages/404058.php?contentType=4&contentId=455237) wisely pointed out, “You cannot train an unmanned radio car to fight terrorism.” Wait, hold the phone, you can't? But an anonymous NYPD spokesman told [the Daily News](http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/04/30/2007-04-30_brass_grasp_at_straw-3.html), “The unmanned cars are there to help prevent accidents, nothing to do with short-staffing.”

The empty vehicles have been placed on the Belt Parkway, the Long Island Expressway, the Cross Bronx Expressway and other roads at locations with a high rate of accidents for about six months, according to the NYPD. I feel so gypped! And kind of ashamed … to think, outwitted by a Ford. What new fandangled method will these guys come up with next?
