I do think the oscars serve as one of the best marketing tools for film. Over the years I have learned of many a film and/or artist due to their nomination alone– and for that, I appreciate the ceremony. Maybe the idea of an awards show striving to stay relevant in its design rather than its content is as bad an idea as the increase in the number of awards shows.
