As a District 3 and PS 199 parent, I want to commend the CEC for their work in addressing overcrowding in District 3. The CEC worked tirelessly for many months to create a solution for overcrowding that would benefit the most children in the District, while disrupting the least amount of children. The guiding value and priority in their decision making was that our youngest neighborhood children should have the ability to attend their zoned neighborhood school. The CEC resolution will allow PS 199 to have a place for all the neighborhood children who are zoned for the school. The Center School, a non-zoned middle school, many of whose children already commute to the school, will be moved to a nieighborhood elementary school with more space, so that they will no longer have to work out of hallways and closets, which will benefit their children. I hope that all elected and community officials and the Department of Education can work with the Center School to assist it in its transition to its new space.
