A woman had to get six stitches at Roosevelt Hospital after she tried to stop a fight between a man and his girlfriend. Police said that at 11:10 p.m., Feb. 19, William Vera, 33, was arguing with his girlfriend in front of 123 W. 81st St., between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues. He struck his girlfriend with an object in his hand, according to reports. When the other woman, 49, tried to intervene, Vera allegedly struck her several times with the object, causing a gash on her right wrist. She was taken to the hospital. Witnesses told police that they saw Vera and a woman, 27-year-old Michelle Castro, fleeing together. Vera and Castro were both picked up later and charged with assault.
