Cop Assaulted

    a police officer was assaulted while responding to a 911 call march 1 at 10:27 p.m. the officer and his partner were in the sixth-floor stairwell inside a building on west 63rd street and west end avenue. brian byers, 41, allegedly threw a book at the two officers, hitting one in the face. the book fractured his left wrist as well. byers ran to the roof, where he was arrested. the 30-year-old officer was taken to roosevelt hospital, police said.
