Collecting the Wrong Debt

an upper west side man contacted police on june 8 after receiving a notice from a collection agency for an unpaid t-mobile phone bill. the 34-year-old man, who lives on west 96th street between columbus and amsterdam avenues, said he had never applied for a t-mobile cell phone or service. the collection agency then deducted $65 from his bank account, most likely using stolen information.
