Some aspects of Mayor Mike Bloomberg's PlaNYC 2030 are easy for anyone to support (except, for example, congestion pricing), Such as the mayor push to move City residents towards more energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs).

NYC & Company is teaming up with Con Edison and General Electric to distribute a coupon for $1-off your next CFL purchase in your electric bill. The coupons will be good for GE Emergy Smart bulbs, and will be included in your August Con Ed bill.

"Changing the incandescent bulbs in your home or office to compact fluorescent light bulbs is one of the easiest and most effective steps New Yorkers can take to really make a difference," said Bloomberg. "With our dedicated corporate partners working together to make it easier to obtain these bulbs, we all can continue to take the steps necessary to reduce our carbon footprint and make New York City the world's first great sustainable city of the 21st century. I urge all New Yorkers to take advantage of this discount and switch to CFLs."
