Celebrity Patrons & the Politicians Who Love Them

For politicians, the world of celebrity backers is a slippery slope: Although the stars of America can give much-needed publicity and funds to political campaigns, they often take away from the legitimacy of the politician in question. For example, how do you feel knowing that [Barbra Streisand is backing Hillary Clinton for the presidency]? Does some of Babs’ grandiose foolishness rub off on Hillary with this action? Do you think Hillary really, truly gives a shit?

Initially, Streisand contributed to all three Democratic candidates (that would be Edwards, too, remember him?) before committing to endorse Hillary Clinton for president. It’s not incredibly surprising that these two old friends representing the two biggest spheres of cronyism in our nation, Washington and Hollywood, would form an alliance. And if the presidency is just a cash money game (and don’t fool yourself, it really is), this ridiculously rich star is just another cash notch in Hillary’s already sizeable donation belt.

"Barbra has used her immense talent to be an advocate for truth, justice, and fairness and I deeply appreciate her confidence in my candidacy as we work together to change the direction of our nation," Clinton said in a statement regarding the backing.

    Whatever, Hil. [Barack's got Oprah].
