Carrion Firm On Congestion Pricing

Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. has been one of the most vocal outer borough supporters of Mayor Mike Bloomberg's congestion pricing proposal. This morning, Carrion co-hosted a forum (more on that a little later) on the "green future" of The Bronx with Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace, and made it clear that though the plan might not see the light of day in Albany he remains committed to its passage.

"I'm unapologetic about it," said Carrion of his support for the plan, though he did acknowledge that the plan does need some "tweaking," be it a change in the pricing hours or adjustments for deliveries.

Carrion noted that the Bloomberg administration and the MTA need to give City residents a very clear plan of just what improvements will be made to mass transit if the proposal were approved, details he felt would make the congestion charge easier to swallow.

"We can't do the stick without the carrot, and I think we have to present the carrot to the consumer of our City," said Carrion.
