Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club gave their fans at Webster Hall everything they could ever ask for last night, playing an exhausting set that lasted over two hours. And if that wasn’t enough, after playing his last note of an extensive encore, Robert Been gave out his bass guitar to one really lucky fan. Unable to take photos, due to a mix-up, I was able to do something I rarely allow myself to do—stand back and enjoy the music to the full extent, without thinking about f-stops and dynamic composition. With BRMC out to blow our minds, this was a perfect concert to do just that. Rocking hard and heavy through the early part of the set, Peter Hayes, Robert Been, and Nick Jago brought extra fire and fury to the most rockin’ songs of their catalog, focusing heavily on latest release Baby 81. After rolling through early highlights like “Berlin,” “Weapon of Choice,” “In Like The Rose” and “Ain’t No Easy Way,” BRMC quieted down a bit, with Jago and Been leaving the stage to allow Hayes to perform solo for two songs (“Fault Line” and “Devil’s Waitin’”). A beautiful moment occurred as the crowd hummed/whistled along to “Devil’s Waiting,” Following Hayes, Robert Been took the stage, asking for all of the lights to be turned off and for the crowd to be respectful, because he would be playing “such a little song for such a big venue.” Darkness emerged king, but so did the douche-bags who all seemed to take this as a cue to talk loudly. The band regrouped and rocked out for a few more tracks, finishing off their set with the amazing “All You Do is Talk.” The band left the stage but they were far from done. After the crowd roared for more, the Been, Hayes, and Jago once again took the stage, and asked the audience what they wanted to hear. The response seemed pretty unanimous, and the band ripped through heavy rockers from their debut, including “Rifles” and “Love Burns” before finishing the encore with “Heart and Soul.”
