A little after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, a 26-year-old man from Brooklyn went out for lunch and was walking on Pearl Street under a scaffold when he was approached by a 38-year-old bearded male. The perpetrator stepped on the victim's foot, said, "Give me your wallet and phone," and displayed what appeared to be a handgun from the waist pocket on his sweatshirt. The victim handed the perpetrator his wallet and started yelling for someone to call the police. The perpetrator backed away, and the victim continued to follow him. After a few steps, the perpetrator shot the victim with a BB gun one time in his right leg. The perpetrator then threw the wallet back to the victim and fled the scene. Video is available at a location on Gold Street. Police conducted a canvass of the area but were unable to locate the BB banger. The BB gun was recovered along with a knife at a loading dock doorway on John Street. No arrests have been made.
