Noah and the Whale hits the stage, rocks harder than expected

Judging by the subdued tones of Noah and the Whale‘s warm and charming debut LP, Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down, released yesterday in the United States, the live show easily could have fallen flat. Jamie Lidell Goes on Synth-infused Funk and Soul Bender

“What does this guy sound like?” queries one audience member to the next. “Uhh, he’s kinda like soul [yes], funk [definitely], jazz [uh huh], Americana [not really]…I dunno. But he’s really good.” The genre-blender is right on the money, but subtract Americana and add clubby dance synths. And vocoders. And keep the “really good” part.
