I happen to be one of the temporary residents in this building and I would like to clear out that there are several strict procedures and conditions to be sent to the Annex (how it's called at Help!): we all have physical and mental evaluations, are assigned to great case managers that advise and help us about housing, benefits and what's next! Only those of us that pass the evaluations and have some kind of income are sent to the Annex and if anything out of normal happens we are sent back to Williams Ave. in Brooklyn. This is a good system and we all benefit from the good life standards of the neighborhood and I honestly doubt that there are that much trouble coming from us (I don't really know of any). The building is being renovated and the rooms are individual and/or shared. We have case managers everyday on site, we have a 10pm curfew and are monitored every single day. There is a limit on the time we live in the building to the next level. If the purpose of all this argument is to protect the homeless women from a lousy landlord, in my experience, I don't have anything bad to say. If the purpose is to get rid of us I prey everyday that it is all resolved somehow and the shelter remains active. We are all going through difficult times and we maybe different and damaged, but here we are treated with the respect and consideration that is necessary for us to recover. Not all of us will manage to do it but at least we were given a shot. I also trust that once all the perceptions are over everybody will see that it is not that bad after all.
