As far as sports go, football is one of the most dangerous in the world. But cleaning your ears after the game? Now that’s where the real danger lies.

At least that’s what the story of Chase Blackburn teaches us. The New York Giants backup linebacker, who has recorded four tackles this season, [ruptured his eardrum] after [Sunday’s victory](http://nypress.com/blogx/display_blog.cfm?bid=90274342) over Philadelphia while cleaning his ear with a cotton swab. Blackburn was standing in the crowded locker room and taking care of his hygiene, when a reporter accidentally bumped into him and sent the swab in too deep. Blackburn dropped to the floor in agony, began bleeding from his ear and has now lost his hearing. Doctors expect him to gain his hearing back slowly.

Apparently, cotton swabs are incredibly dangerours, cause hundreds of injuries per year and many medical professionals even [warn against using them]. I guess you learn something new everyday.
