Subway Subtraction

A young woman may have concerns about taking the subway again anytime soon. At 2 p.m. on Monday, October 13, a 21-year-old woman got off the 1 train at 72nd Street after having traveled from 59th Street. At that time, she realized that her wallet was missing, containing contents valued at $854.

Putting the Hurt on Hertz

Rental car agencies generally expect their customers to return the cars. At 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, a man rented a Mercedes-Benz from the Hertz location at 270 W. 60th Street. He then never returned the car. The stolen car was valued at $25,000.

Tapas Dog

A local Spanish restaurant again fell prey to a late-night burglar. At 1:30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, an unknown perpetrator broke into the Andanada restaurant at 141 W. 69th Street and made off with $2,000 in cash plus a computer valued at $2,000, for a total haul of $4,000. This was the second time the establishment had been broken into in recent weeks.

Yuba Libre

Even a good bike lock does not always secure a good bike. At 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, a 38-year-old woman locked her bicycle to a pole outside 60 W. 67th Street. When she returned some time later, she found that the bike was missing. It was a Yuba cargo bike valued at $1,500.

Bandit Band

A group of young thieves descended on an area cell phone store recently. At 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, six to eight young men ages 15 to 18 entered the Verizon Wireless store at 2061 Broadway and made off with three Samsung Galaxy notebook computers valued at $2,300.
