Hundreds of artists from around the world have joined Art Set Free, a global showcase from Arts Brookfield that aims to create the world’s largest collection of public art. Ten of the most innovative artists have been chosen for the first Best of Art Set Free digital art installation, which debuts this week on the monumental video screen at Brookfield Place Winter Garden, formerly the World Financial Center, in Lower Manhattan.

Arts Brookfield launched Art Set Free in October in celebration of its 25th Anniversary. Since its launch, the Art Set Free showcase has collected nearly 2,000 pieces of art from hundreds of artists who submitted their sound, visual and performance art on social media with the hashtag #ArtSetFree. The Art Set Free microsite, ArtsBrookfield25.com, is updated in real time and features work from artists in more than 50 cities worldwide. Every six weeks, Arts Brookfield will feature 10 artists in a series of Best of Art Set Free onsite video installations. Throughout 2014, video installations are expected to launch at select Brookfield properties in Los Angeles, Denver, Houston, Toronto and Perth.

The first Best of Art Set Free installation features the work of 10 outstanding artists: hip-hop violinist Damien Escobar, graphic designer Nazaury Delgado and director and animator Joshua Frankel, all from New York City; film director Leah McKissock, Los Angeles; painter Daniel Brents, Houston; the acapella group Gentleman’s Rule, Chicago; cinematographer Fiona Foster, Arizona; mixed media artist Claudia Roulier, Colorado; painter Jacinda Bayne, Perth; and musician Jesse Cook, Toronto.
