Anti-Gun Mayors Unveil New Ad

A coalition of mayors, featuring Mike Bloomberg, Newark's Cory Booker (pictured) and Boston's Thomas Menino got together this morning in Jersey City to announce the creation of a new television advertisement touting the repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment, which the oppose due to the restrictions it places on law enforcement when it comes to tracking gun data.

The ad will run in targeted Congressional districts, urging those House members who support the amendment to change their minds.

“We are facing a crisis of illegal guns in our communities where more than 30,000 Americans lose their lives to gun violence every year,” said Booker. “We have an obligation to stem the flow of illegal weapons to our cities, and that starts with the ability of law enforcement to trace these illegal weapons to their source. The Tiahrt Amendment betrays the gravity of the current situation by insulating illegal gun retailers. We must act now. Our cherished values, the security of our communities, and the safety of our police officers are on the line."
