America Demands Bridge Fix

A new Gallup Poll states the obvious: in light of last week's Minneapolis bridge collapse, Americans overwhelmingly favor spending $100 billion in funds to rebuild our nation's infrastructure, 73-22.

That would certainly be a huge tax burden, but it might be the only way. Congressman Eliot Engel (pictured), noting that one in eight American bridges are rated "structurally deficient" and in need of serious repair. Whatever the cost, said Engel, it could cost too much to wait.

“The terrible tragedy of the Minnesota bridge collapse tells us that we must look at our local infrastructure to be sure we are safe," said Engel. "We dare not delay."
