Advice To Hillary: Supporters Are More Than Wallets
Over at [DailyKos], Markos is analyzing the money numbers between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, especially pointing out that while Clinton might have brought in slightly more dough, Obama doubled her when it came to the total number of contributors, 100,000 to her 50,000 (estimated).
What's the big difference? For Kos, it's that Clinton has based her campaign on asking you for money, while Obama is asking for your input. Quote:
Don't go to people begging for money. Go to people and ask them to be part of a bigger movement. Once they believe in a campaign, they'll gladly open up. To whom would you give $20, a stranger on a street or your good friend? Campaigns need to focus more on establishing that emotional connection with potential supporters. Once that connection is made, you don't have to press too hard for money. It'll come.
