ADL: Mainstream Groups Embracing Fringe Hate

The Anti-Defamation League has just issued a new online report outlining how mainstream anti-immigration groups have begun embracing the tactics of more extremist, racist hate groups in getting their message across.

The report, titled "Immigrants Targeted: Extremist Rhetoric Moves

into the Mainstream," can be found [here]. There's nothing New York specific in the report, but given the current hubbub over Eliot Spitzer's plan to give drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants it is still worth a read.

"Under the guise of warning about the impact of illegal immigration in the rush to thwart the immigration bill from becoming law, some anti-immigrant groups reached for the playbook of hate groups," said

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "They have taken hateful and racist rhetoric and brought it into the mainstream."
