24,417 Columbia Students, 600 March

The Columbia Daily Spectator says that over [600 people showed up] last night for the 20th annual [Take Back the Night](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take_Back_the_Night) march against sexual violence. Unfortunately, this number indicates that a vast majority of Columbia students are either okay with sexual violence, merely apathetic to it or needed to study. But nevertheless, the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism student who was raped and tortured in her apartment for 19 hours last Friday surely appreciates the support of those who did come out. The march was followed by the (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070420/ap_on_re_us/grad_student_torture_6)[arrest of the primary suspect](http://www.nypost.com/seven/04202007/news/regionalnews/19_hr___rape__fiend_regionalnews_erika_martinez__murray_weiss_and_tatiana_deligiannakis.htm) in her case early this morning, though it is likely that one had nothing to do with the other. The ex-con accused of raping her, force-feeding her drugs and alcohol, slitting her eyelids with a knife and then setting the futon to which she was tied on fire is now in custody. The victim is still hospitalized, but hopefully she’ll be taking back the night one day soon.
