We all know that St. Patrick’s Day is really just an excuse to overindulge in waist-thickening brews: a marketing event that makes everyone feel good and has no uncomfortable, negative connotations. But if you’re looking for more than green swill and want to check out your favorite tartan plaid as the parade winds its way up 5th Avenue, then go on a Walking Tour of Irish New York with the Big Onion crew. They’ll lead you around the Lower East Side and recall the day when the nabe had more Irish residents than Dublin (take that hipsters!). The crazy kids at The Tank have decided to up the ante and combine St. Patty’s with another cultural excuse to get drunk, and that’s how St. Purim’s Day began. The evening’s mix of dancing, drinking, comedy and music features sing-alongs courtesy of Hello Nurse and more rock ‘n’ roll with The Red Chapel and Butch & Bellie. Because, as they say “on one night, everyone is Jewish.”
