Indie Authors

Indie bands have CMJ and SXSW, indie films have a slew of film fests that promote their hip cred. And Indie books? They’ve got the National Small Press Month Reading Marathon, where literary lovers can claim “I heard it first” about the next buzz book. Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain, after all, was originally published by small publisher Grove Atlantic and went on to make it to megaplexes. Thirty-one applauded authors—including Lynn Tillman (American Genius, A Comedy), Matthew Sharpe (Jamestown), T. Cooper (Some of the Parts) and Nahid Rachlin (Jumping Over Fire) hit Mo Pitkins’ for five hours of innovative and wonderful words that just may make you stand up and say: Yes!

March 16, Mo Pitkin’s House of Satisfaction, 34 Ave. A (at E. 3rd St.), 212-777-5660; 6-11, $5.
