Twyla Tharp’s musical The Times They Are A-Changin’, based on Bob Dylan’s music, closed after less than a month of production. Tharp’s first attempted at storytelling with popular songs happened with Billy Joel’s music in Movin’ Out, which premiered in NYC Oct. 24, 2002. Joel’s show played more than 1,300 times and grossed over $100 million before ending its Broadway run in Dec. 2005. So, Bobbie D., your tunes weren’t meant for the stage; should you really be envious of the “Piano Man”? Probably not, especially because, while actors like Adrien Brody and Cate Blanchett are playing you in the upcoming Todd Haynes biopic, I’m Not There, a biopic film about Joel wouldn’t require actors; just a piano, a bottle of red, a bottle of white, a mound of Silly Putty and some googly eyes.
