DIRTY MOUTH? CLEAN IT UP

By Kari Milchman

In an interview that aired this past Sunday on 60 Minutes, New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin insults NYC for its slow recovery post 9/11. While touring New Orleans’ Ninth Ward, the area decimated by Hurricane Katrina, Nagin tells CBS News National Correspondent Byron Pitts that the city has removed most of the debris from public property and mainly only private land has yet to be cleaned up. But when Pitts pointed out flood-damaged cars in the street as well as part of a house that washed up there, Nagin replied, “That’s alright. You guys in New York can’t get a hole in the ground fixed and it’s five years later. So let’s be fair.” It’s amazing Nagin was able to make such inflammatory comments with his foot still in his mouth from earlier this year when he urged his residents to rebuild the “chocolate New Orleans” God had always wanted. Later, Nagin tried to convince offended listeners that by “chocolate,” he meant an integrated city because the yummy sweet is made by combining “dark chocolate” with “white milk.” Actually, those are only two of the ingredients used to make milk chocolate, which might have been a more apt description of New Orleans. We haven’t heard an explanation so creative since Clinton redefined sexual relations.
